Overview of Opportunity

Umber Creative are a creative digital design and development agency, working from modern and spacious premises, owned by the company and based in Hull. Incorporated in 2010 by two local directors, Umber Creative are an agency providing honest, reliable, approachable and most importantly, practical services to its clientele.

Umber Creative have grown into a tight knit team of creative and development professionals, believing in quality, service and giving the best advice for the customer. As a team, Umber Creative have extensive knowledge of delivering services online and offline – with solutions being provided daily to local and national customers. The past few years has seen expansion of Umber Creative, with an increased focus on larger scale web projects and systems – whilst maintaining a healthy interest in print and exhibition work. Due to an ever-increasing workload, Umber Creative are seeking a graduate with an understanding of object orientated programming and the web – to assist in the development of bespoke web site functionality and the creation of web applications alongside a supportive core team.

Role Description

  • Working in a small and supportive digital team, within the wider creative group
  • Contributing to bespoke website functionality development
  • Creating tailored web applications
  • Following a strong integration and training period, having the freedom to work on interesting and impactful projects for key clientele
  • Undertaking internal training from Umber Creative, as well as external training sourced by the company
  • Diversifying and upskilling in a number of different technologies throughout the internship, and beyond

Skills and Experience (Essential):

  • Familiarity with object orientated programming
  • Understanding of the web
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Be adaptable and flexible in your approach
  • Have a desire to succeed and achieve within a creative environment
  • Ability to work within a close-knit team environment, and collaborative culture
  • Familiarity with SQL databases

Skills and Experience (Desirable):

  • A knowledge or understanding of the following would be beneficial; Object-Orientated PHP (utilising an MVC pattern), MySQL/MariaDB, HTTP, HTML, CSS, Javascript/JQuery


  • A recent or 2022 graduate in Computer Science or other relevant degree subject

  • Yes, it is hopeful that a permanent position will be offered following the completion of a successful internship
