Overview of Opportunity
- RD Biomed are innovators in healthcare product development, with a focus on gastroenterology. Their products have been routinely used with patients in global gastroenterology, ENT, chest and respiratory clinics and have a wide use in paediatrics
- This project will help RD Biomed develop and validate new IT solutions, to improve the efficiency of their technical internal processes. The successful intern will use their creative skills and software expertise, in designing new software/apps to improve the company’s procedures and business functions; including laboratory data collection, patient data handling, stock control, sales reporting etc.
- The candidate will evaluate and optimise RD Biomed’s current data flows, removing duplication of work and automating data handling where possible, whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and GDPR compliance in accordance with ISO 13485
- RD Biomed currently work within a Microsoft 365 environment, but are open to introducing other solution providers to their tech stack where justified
Role Description
- Liaising with the internal team in a proactive manner, suggesting options for improvement in relation to the company’s business functions; laboratory data collection, patient data handling, stock control, operating procedures and sales reporting
- Building software solutions to the identified problems, with the freedom to implement the software of your recommendation for the function projects
- Communicate ideas and findings to the team
- Ensure all changes are documented and controlled in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS)
- Develop new processes for data handling. This could include introduction of new turnkey solutions, development of no code apps, development of automation macros or other solutions as justified by cost/benefit
- Produce user documentation and training materials for new systems, and providing guidance on the new systems produced
- Organise and prioritise own workload to meet tight deadlines
- Support and advise team on technology platforms and software solutions for collaboration and general operations
- Work according to all relevant health and safety assessments and the company H&S policy
- Handle all data and information confidentially and in compliance with company policies
Skills and Experience (Essential):
- Good knowledge of software development & applications
- Be a creative problem solver, offering practical solutions within the software development arena
- Knowledge of writing & testing code, identifying bugs and continuous improvement
- Have an understanding of the latest trends & platforms, and confidence to implement these in a commercial environment
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to organise own time and workload
- Are able to work towards deadlines and timescales
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- To be flexible and open to change
- The ability to document data handling, and create user guidance as you go along
Skills and Experience (Desirable):
- Knowledge of Data Protection and GDPR would be advantageous, although this can be taught
Qualifications:
- Currently studying Computer Science (undergraduate)
- You will be qualified at level 5 or above, meaning you will be starting your 3rd and final year in September 2022 as a minimum
Potential for Permanent Employment (if applicable):
- This is a 12 Week Summer Internship, however, could have the potential for a permanent role (P/T or F/T) or year in industry if relevant
