Software Developer/IT Engineer

Company Overview

Jesmond Engineering works in the design of aircraft and other high-end technology equipment for major companies in the UK and mainland Europe. Part of this work is to develop in-house software and consultancy providing structural design analysis, including fluid flow simulation, bespoke software, training, testing and supply of engineers.

Role Description

  • Assist in establishing detailed software specifications through discussion with clients;
  • Clarify what actions the software is intended to perform;
  • Break down software specifications into their simplest elements and translate this logic into a programming language;
  • Devise possible solutions to anticipated problems;
  • Work as part of a team, which may be established purely for a particular project to write a specific section of the software;
  • Combine all elements of the software design and test it;
  • Test sample data-sets to check that the software works as intended;
  • Conduct testing and install the software into production;
  • React to problems and correct the software as necessary;
  • Adapt the software to new requirements as necessary;
  • Conduct user-acceptance testing to ensure the software can be used easily, quickly and accurately;
  • Write detailed documentation for the operation of the software by users and computer operators;
  • Support the IT infrastructure as needed (under guidance if needed) to set-up or repair a range of day to day IT equipment including printers, laptops and desk to equipment
  • To run routine scripts and processes to ensure data security and data integrity on the Company servers
  • To support the main Company website and update as needed / instructed

 Skills and Experience (Essential):

You will be a recent graduate or similar with a keen interest in IT and Software Development

  • Experience in use of Microsoft C#.net language
  • Creativity, ingenuity and excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • High level of computer literacy and ability to use software tools
  • A proactive team player who can motivate and support their peers.
  • An ability to work well in a multi-discipline environment and is pro-active in taking responsibility and seeking out all required supporting information.
  • An able communicator in verbal, written and presentational forms.
  • Able to manage and work within agreed timescales and task budgets.
  • Has the personal resourcefulness and desire to be able to develop and widen capability
  • Excellent technical knowledge
  • The ability to prioritise and plan effectively
  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Good problem-solving skills and a creative approach for new ideas

Skills and Experience (Desirable):

  • Good commercial awareness

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will have a suitable graduate qualification and experience in programming C#.net.
  • A computer science degree or equivalent

Hours

37.5 per week (8.30am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday with 1 hour lunch break). Occasional weekend work may be required.
