Overview of Opportunity
- RD Biomed is an innovator in healthcare product development, including world-renowned expertise in gastrointestinal (GI) products and research – with a focus on the development and commercialisation of medical products to diagnose and manage GI diseases. RD Biomed’s products have been routinely used with patients in global gastroenterology, ENT, chest and respiratory clinics and have a wide use in paediatrics
- RD Biomed has achieved ISO 13485: 2016 certification – the internationally agreed standard specific to the medical devices industry. The company’s flagship product is a diagnostic device named Peptest – an immunological in-vitro diagnostic medical device that can rapidly detect the gastric enzyme pepsin in saliva/sputum and exhaled breath condensate samples.
- Joining an existing lab-based team of 4, the Scientist role will involve supporting with the day to day management of a busy lab – including R&D, QA, Testing etc
- This opportunity will ideally turn into permanent position if the initial internship is deemed successful by RD Biomed
Role Description
- Assist with the management of laboratory and product and project consumables
- Testing, managing and reporting on customer clinical samples
- Preparation of standards, buffers and materials for product orders and sample testing
- Maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Support packing and management of national and international customer orders
- Quality Control testing and product release
- Support of Quality Management System under ISO 13485
- Supports internal and external projects using project planning techniques and tools to ensure delivery in line with specifications and timescales
- Supports internal research and development projects by carrying out required practical experimental work
- Provides support to senior team in designing and planning of projects
- Preparation of technical documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures and COSHH Assessments
- Maintain stock levels, responsible for sourcing and ordering raw materials and liaising with suppliers
- Supports maintenance of laboratory equipment, identifying any faults, sourcing and implementing service contracts
- Supports routine equipment calibration checks
- Work according to all relevant health and safety assessments and the company H&S policy
- Handle all data and information confidentially and in compliance with company policies
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
Skills and Experience (Essential):
- A creative, problem solver
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Team-player who can also work independently and organise own time and workload
- Able to work towards deadlines and timescales
- To be flexible and open to change
- Understanding of Good Laboratory practice
Skills and Experience (Desirable):
- Competence with office applications such as MS Excel, Outlook, Word
- Some statistical knowledge
- Commercial awareness
- Leadership skills
Qualifications:
- Any science orientated degree to be considered
