Moving from a learning environment into employment has never been easy. Employers want accomplished employees with the work-based skills they will need to add value to an organisation. Think effective communication, teamworkers, time management. Educators teach learners to demonstrate they have achieved a certain level of competence in a given subject.

There’s an obvious gap between what employers want from their candidates and the level of ‘work-readiness’ of new talent. Graduates are told to go out and get work but, all too often, with limited knowledge of the skills businesses need. That’s where the Humber Internships Programme (HIP) comes in.

HIP connects degree level graduates and students with SME businesses in the Humber through valuable a 12 week period work experience, called an internship. 

Internships give our graduates an incredible head-start in their careers, connecting them to high-value, aspirational paid work that will help them launch into successful and rewarding careers. Business benefit because they gain access to ambitious and qualified individuals who can alleviate workload, provide additional skills and help businesses achieve more. Everybody wins.

To date, HIP has helped over 30 people at the start of their careers to find real with work with real companies whilst getting paid. Over 80% of HIP internships have resulted in an offer of permanent employment.
